Meet our latest Pastor in Residence

The Rev. Edwin F Wills, Jr
Ed has just retired from 17 years of shared service with Saint Michael's Episcopal Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Baptized into Christ Church at Grace St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he also attended the parochial school through the 6th grade. In 1968 when Dr King was assassinated, Ed was in the eighth grade at a large public school. This event and the subsequent civil unrest in Memphis in general and the functional integration of Central High School of which Ed was a part in particular made a deep impression.
Ed's first full-time job with the Episcopal Church was in 1977 when he became Youth Minister and Assistant at All Saints’ Episcopal, Memphis. In 1979 Ed married Andrea Newsom also from Memphis. In 1982 they moved just north of Memphis to St. Columba Episcopal Conference Center where Ed served as the founding director. All three of their now adult children were born in the 10 years they were at St Columba.
In 1992 the family moved to Jackson Mississippi where Ed served as Assistant for Parish Formation at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral. 1996 brought them to Little Rock Arkansas where Ed served for 8 years as Subdean of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. In 2004 Ed became Vicar of St. Michael's Episcopal Church Little Rock, and then Rector when St Michael's became a parish.
Ed and Andrea currently live in Little Rock where from their front porch they can see the front porch of two grandchildren and also the back porch of two other grandchildren. The other two grandchildren live just up the highway in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Andrea plans to press Ed into service in her on site flower farm. Ed is also looking forward to spending more time in community organizing, which he calls practicing Holy Communion Monday through Saturday.
Ed and Andrea are looking forward to seeing what God is doing at Christ Memorial.

Upcoming Teaching Series
FAITH
AND
WORKS
Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith. - James 2:18
A contextual Scripture study exploring the correlative nature of faith and works.
In this six week study we will explore the relationship of faith, Scripture and everyday life. The study will be contextual in the original sense of the word: “to join by weaving.” Using six different Bible passages (one per week) we will weave together faith and the work of our lives. The format will be a conversation rather than a lecture. All are welcome.
