PAINTING INSTALLED IN CHAPEL - November 21, 2021
A painting by Saim Caglayan of an island-inspired Virgin Mary at the innocent age when she was called to carry the Christ Child, a time when she would have been about 14 years old. This painting was done to include the blue sky of the universe and her halo or nimbus being infused with that sacred holy light. The poem If You Want by St. John of the Cross was read at the dedication of this piece in the sanctuary of CMEC at the service on Christ the King Sunday ~ King of the Universe, November 21, 2021. This painting can be seen in our prayer chapel on the right side of our sanctuary.

DEDICATION OF THE PRAYER CHAPEL - February 5, 2020
on Wednesday, February 5, we dedicated our new little Sanctuary Prayer Chapel. The Chapel is a quiet little space that was originally the Sacristy when the church was built in the early 40’s. When a new sacristy was built behind the sanctuary, it became a hallway and storage area. A team led by Maggie Lea, our church historian, renovated the space. Parishioner Dr. Matt Miller designed and created the beautiful wall cross made out of koa wood, matching the koa wood table given by Linda Sproat. The Chapel also features a portrait of Queen Liliʻuokalani and a prie dieu (kneeler) and small pew. It’s a lovely place to sit and read or pray. |
DR. MATT MILLER INSPIRED TO HAND CARVE A CROSS FOR OUR PRAYER CHAPEL
Dr. Matt Miller volunteered to make a cross for Christ Memorial’s Prayer Chapel. He says he was inspired by his “angel” who showed him a vision of a living cross. He drew what he saw in that vision. But he did not know any way of carving what he had drawn. Again, his “angel” appeared, showing him a vision of carving techniques that made it possible to render her design in wood. He brought the finished cross to Christ Memorial, as a gift for the baby Jesus, on Christmas morning, 2019. |
